History of the Kansas City Royals

  • 1969: Kansas City Royals founded as one of four expansion teams
  • 1969: The first game for the Royals is played at Municipal Stadium, winning 3-1 against the Minnesota Twins
  • 1971: In just their third year, the Royals post their first winning season and finish second in the Western Division
  • 1973: The Royals leave Municipal Stadium and move into the brand new Royals Stadium which also hosted the All-Star game that same year
  • 1973: George Brett debuts for the Royals as a young third basemen, and would be the centerpiece of Royals baseball for the next 20 years
  • 1977: For the first time in team history, the club posts a 102 win season and win their second consecutive division title
  • 1985: Kansas City captures its first World Series title after beating the St. Louis Cardinals in 7 games
  • 1999: George Brett is inducted into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame
  • 2003: The Royals post their first winning season since 1994 and stayed in the playoff race until the final two weeks of the season
  • 2006: The Royals hire Dayton Moore to be the next General Manager
  • 2011: Kansas City's top rated prospects start to make their way to the big leagues, including the likes of Eric Hosmer, Mike Moustakas, Danny Duffy, and Greg Holland
  • 2012: Kauffman Stadium hosts its second All-Star Game and not since 1973, the inaugural season for the then Royals Stadium
  • 2014: Kansas City has a magical year for reaching the playoffs for the first time in 30 years. In a wild playoff run, they swept their way into the World Series where they would face off against the San Francisco Giants. Ultimately the Royals are defeated in 7 games.
  • 2015: The Royals of 2015 was the top team in all of baseball throughout the season and would go on to capture their 2nd World Series title after beating the New York Mets in 5 games
